Each room is well decorated while some of them which celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and Albert Einstein once stayed, are taken as historic spots with photos hanging on the wall to show guests.
All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, IDD/DDD telephone, Satellite TV and other modern facilities.
The hotel is the only place in Shanghai offering dormitory accommodation. As such, it is often full, especially in the summer months so it is a good idea to call ahead and book a room if you can.
The hotel has some fairly crowded but clean dormitories and also some cheaper double and triple rooms on offer. The building itself is great, an old colonial building and formerly a much more glamorous hotel. Today, it's more like something out of a gothic horror tale- but atmospheric and fun nevertheless.
The Richard's Restaurant in the baroque style has a long history, which was special in Shanghai. The restaurant has many chefs experienced in cooking not only Shanghai cuisine but also many other foods. The restaurant has a grand hall to arrange 22 feast tables and seven compartments, which are the perfect place for business dinner, gatherings, weddings and birthday parties.
